I’ve Moved!

Posted on

Well, I finally decided to move to an actual blog site. The old site was never meant to be a blog as such when I set it up, and—though I’ve had fun playing around with html and css—what I had to say became more important than the fun of playing around with the code. Oh, and once I decided to add comments, and a few other more blog-like features, well it all became a bit complicated. Far better to move to somewhere where the behind-the-scenes crap is taken care of automatically, and I don’t have to worry about checking browser-compatibility or any of that stuff.

Oh, and the old one is provided free by my ISP, which means if I ever change providers, I’ve lost it; a distinct possibility, as, since Tiscali got bought out by Talk Talk, their costumer *customer* (Thanks Rustiguzzi) service—never too great to begin with—has drilled into previously unreached subterranean depths. Jules Verne would be jealous as hell. I think we passed James Mason and Pat Boone about a mile back…

I’ll continue to post the first couple of paragraphs of each new post on the homepage of the old site, for a while at least, with a ‘read more’ link to the posts here. Long enough for my few regular readers to catch up with the move, anyway. Plus that’ll keep the old site active for longer, as Tiscali/Talk Talk will apparently delete it if I don’t access it for three months running.

Now all I need to do is copy all the old content… Ho-hum.

  1. Good luck in your new home xx

  2. Thankee Sagz. (I think I’ve turned comment moderation off, now. Sorry ’bout that!)

  3. Testing moderation

  4. Welcome to WordPress!

Nice to have all that stuff taken care of so you can focus on what you want to say, I concur.

-brings some wine for the housewarming-

  5. Well thanks! Will it mix well with the beer, d’you think?

I’m going square-eyed! trying to move everything that’s worth moving. One problem, though—my lovely book page, with the sortable table, what works by javascript… WordPress don’t allow JS!

  6. I’ve no idea, it was left at my place after my own housewarming. ;)

Oh no! That’s a conundrum. We must have the book list!

  7. Congratulations on making the move. All seems to be going well, and the new site looks great. I like your comments about the Talktalk “customer service”, by the way.

  8. Welcome aboard Daz. Thus far, i have been quite satisfied with WordPress. I hope you like it.

  9. Thank you all!

Alice, the book page will still appear at some stage, just not in a sortable table.

(If anyone’s wondering what I mean, the test-version is here. Unfortunately, you need javascript or similar to achieve the effect, and WordPress don’t allow javascript, so I can’t do the same here. Don’t use the comments there please, as it’s a totally unrelated comment board that I embedded just to check the layout.)

Ah, yes Rusti. Their ‘costumer’ (ahem) service is the joke to end all jokes. I’m still technically with Tiscali but I’m billed by talk talk, the ‘help’-line is talk talk etc. I suspect I’ll get that Brough Superior I mentioned in a recent post, before getting decent service off them. (Mmm Brough Superior… I need a lie down now!)

Thank you KK. It was this or Blogger, and with Blogger being partnered by Google, well it was really no choice at all. (Expect lots of ‘How do I…? emails…) My only complaint is that, after browsing gawd knows how many themes, I came to the conclusion that Alice and yourself had already used the best two. Gits!
