Zombiethon, The Trashy sequel: Day 7: Undead Ladies

Posted on

Given our society's rather patriarchal habit of bringing up girls to be ‘nice’, I suppose it's not surprising that women are rather under-represented in the field of making horrible trashy-shouty music about the undead. There are some, though, and I thought I'd dedicate tonight's offering to pointing that out.

First up are Canadian band, The Creepshow, of whom I know very little except that I like 'em, performing Zombies Ate Her Brain

Next up are the Horrorpops, a psychobilly/punk/gawd-knows-what band from Denmark, featuring husband and wife Kim Nekroman and Patricia Day on guitar and double-bass respectively. When they formed the band, they swapped instruments; Patricia teaching Kim to play guitar, and him teaching her to play bull-fiddle. Oh, and Kim builds double basses as well as playing them. Some people just have too damned much talent. Bastards.

Anyway, here they are, with the apt Walk Like A Zombie

A word about this weird ‘psychobilly’ stuff you've probably noticed me mentioning a lot in these posts. Basically, it's based, to a greater or lesser extent, on rockabilly (as practiced by folks who don't think the world ended in 1960, or that the valve-amplifier is the be all and end all of technology). Lyrics are predominantly horror and SF B-movie-inspired, and the ‘dancing’ is, well, take a look…

If that horrifies you, it's worth noting that I've seen less actual fights at psychobilly gigs than at any other genre. There's probably a deeepity in there somewhere, if anyone feels like digging for it.

Anyway, I'll shut up now, ecept to say that you should check out Cannonball Jones's and Alice's latest Zombiethon posts, too. They've both put up some truly awesome numbers!
