So, I opened the Blogs & News Feeds folder in my mail, just now, and boy, did I get a shock! You've probably noticed, by now, that Herr Ratface is stepping down. Igor is, apparently, back in Transylvania as we speak, filling the old duffer's coffin with fresh soil and checking the area for availability of buxom young maidens with underwired négligées and no common sense in the matter of locking their windows at night, in preparation for his master's retirement…
Of course, if there truly was a god who promoted justice in this world, the nasty old mass-murdering homophobe would be retiring to a prison cell, but nope; there is no justice in this world but what we give it, and the old bastard'll walk free with no charges and a hefty pension to boot. RHIP, and you don't get much higher ranking than being boss of the world's biggest organised crime syndicate, when all's said and done. Ho-hum.
And nor, unfortunately, do I think this'll make much of a difference to the policies of the RCC. I very much doubt that Ratzinger would be stepping down unless all, or at least most, of those who're likely to stand a chance at replacing him were equally hide-bound, reactionary and all-out conservative loony-tunes. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
Still an' all (because some piss-takes are just too good to let die), we have this marvellous ceremony to look forward to…
