Behold, our glorious leader…
Here's the relevant part…
I think the other thing to remember is that these appalling terrorist attacks that take place where the perpetrators claim they do it in the name of a religion; they don't. They do it in the name of terror, violence, extremism, and their warped view of the world. They don't represent Islam or Muslims in Britain or anywhere else in the world.
Well I hate to point out the bleedin' obvious to you, Mr Cameron, but they quite clearly were acting in the name of religion. They, themselves, made a pretty bloody clear point of this, by testing hostages on their religious beliefs when deciding whether to release them or kill them. It may not be your idea of good religious practice. It may not be many people's idea of good religious practice. It may, quite possibly, not be their own imams' and their sweet sainted mothers' idea of good religious practice. But to claim that it isn't the terrorists' idea of good religious practice is, I would suggest, fucking idiotic.
They did not do what they did "in the name of" terror. They did what they did, using terror as a tool, in the name of their religion.
They did not do what they did "in the name of" violence. They did what they did, using violence as a tool, in the name of their religion.
And yes, they did it in the name of their warped view of the world. Their religiously warped view of the world.
I quite agree that they don't represent all of Islam, or even most of Islam—whatever that nebulous thing named "Islam" actually is, when we're not talking strictly of the body of lore which lies at the core of the religion. And no, they certainly don't represent all—or, again, even most—Muslims. They quite obviously do represent some Muslims, though. It's not as if they appeared as fully-formed violence-using Muslims from a magical bloody vacuum, is it? And to claim otherwise, Davie-boy, is idiocy.
By all means, send a calming message that they represent only a minority; that all Muslims shouldn't be tarred with the brush of terrorism. Sadly, in a world which contains Tommy Robinson and his ilk, such messages are very much needed; and it really is a shame that the people who most need to heed it will probably ignore that message.
But you don't need to lie through your teeth—and deny what's in front of everyone's faces—to do it.
