Well, t'is the world snooker finals this weekend, so it's also time for my yearly vaguely-snooker-related music post. And it's a Friday, so it's also a chance to resurrect the Friday Night Is Music Night tag. This year's—and this Friday's—theme is "balls." The kind you roll, throw or hit, the kind you dance at, or any other meaning of the word which might occur. So here's my six. As ever, feel free to add your own suggestions in comments.

Warning: this next one is definitely not safe for work!

How about a bit of music that starts with a cue ball being hit. Does that count?
Remigius, you reminded me of a song that also had the sound of what I think are balls clicking at the beginning. Unfortunately, no one has posted that on YouTube. I looked it up and amusingly, a copy is for sale on ebay. “Laches Lousses RARE OOP Canadian Compilation of Quebec Punk Bands Vinyl LP (New)”. I like the description:
‘Impress your friends!’ – Now that’s gotta be a joke. Now I really feel old. I wasn’t even young when I bought that. 😦
My own copy is in such bad shape it’s one of only two or three items that won’t make it to being ripped. (Actually, I’ve been impressed by the condition of my own records. I didn’t know I’d been so careful over the years. I’m kind of a slob. Daz hasn’t written to me since I took a photo of my apartment. I think I scared him.) So, it’s good news for me, but bad news for that seller, Lâchés Lousses has recently been reissued.
Anyway, the song I had in mind, if anyone actually cares to follow the link, scroll down and find it, it’s ‘Boire et déboire’ by Parazit. Most of the record is so-so, but there are a few good things on it.
Sorry, Daz, I’ll try to come up with something. I’m feeling woefully inadequate at the moment.
I wasn’t actually looking for French stuff, I was just going through what I had looking for the word “ball” in the title because nothing was coming to mind except “Ball of Confusion,” which you already posted, and “Great Balls of Fire.”
Taxi Girl – Aussi belle qu’une balle
I think, by the way, in this instance, “balle” is “bullet.”
That reminded me of a line in a song by Les Colocs.
“Celle qui par ma fenêtre
est entrée dans mon coeur
Comme une balle perdue”
“She, who by my window, entered my heart like a stray bullet.”
I like the little story, so I’m including the one with the lyrics.
I don’t know what kind of balls this guy had in mind.
Here’s another type of ball.
If I woke up one morning as a man, I’d make myself a jacket like this.
Hell, maybe I’ll make one anyway.
And yet one more type of ball, Marcia Ball. This is a really fun video. I haven’t seen it before.
Harking back to an earlier thread, another advantage of digital over vinyl is how easy it is to search for a specific genre, artist, word etc. Just type in the word ‘ball’ on’t remote and hey presto…
Red Rubber Ball put me in mind of spaldeens.
