It turns out that through a combination of life getting in the way and of me being really rusty at any form of writing longer than a couple of paragraphs, it's takin' me a bit (ahem) longer to get a post up than expected. Which prompted a good idea from Stephen. Resurrect the Friday Night Is Music Night series of posts, and do the first one on the theme of writing.

So okay, here's six to get the ball rolling. As ever, feel free to add your own in comments.

FNIMN: Moustache

Several months ago, this, erm, thing colonised my upper lip and I didn't have the heart to send it packing. I'm still not completely convinced it should be given a permanent home, but it's been long enough that I can hardly claim it's temporary any more.

Certain shenanigans surrounding aircraft carriers, this week, put me in a nautical kind of mood. So I bunged a load of songs on that theme together in a video format and uploaded 'em onto YouTube. And here, Gentle Reader, is the result. Thirty-three songs of a nautical bent. About half of them are the rockabilly most long-time readers have probably learned to expect from me, but the other half… Well, there's the Spinners, the Toy Dolls, the Andrews Sisters and the Band Of Her Majesty's Royal Marines, to name but a few. It's a rather strange mix but rather fun, I think.

As it's Friday and I'm actually at the computer, hows about a Friday Night Is Music night post? This week's theme is the colour red. I've gone the literal route—every song I'm posting above the line has the word "red" in the title—but if you're adding suggestions in comments, feel free to widen the concept to things that are red; sunsets, bloodstains, etc. Anyways, here's six from me to start the ball rolling. A red ball, obviously.

Since I seem to have resurrected the Friday Night Is Music Night series of posts—and as it appears to be Friday—here's six songs on the theme of "searching." As ever, feel free to add suggestions in comments.

Well, t'is the world snooker finals this weekend, so it's also time for my yearly vaguely-snooker-related music post. And it's a Friday, so it's also a chance to resurrect the Friday Night Is Music Night tag. This year's—and this Friday's—theme is "balls." The kind you roll, throw or hit, the kind you dance at, or any other meaning of the word which might occur. So here's my six. As ever, feel free to add your own suggestions in comments.

The First Rule Of Holes…

Long-time readers may have noticed that I've kinda slowed down on the Friday Night Is Music Night posts, of late. That's 'cause, basically, I'm finding it hard to come up with new ideas for themes. So instead of sticking to Fridays, how's about I just make the themed music posts when an idea pops up?

This one, as you may have noticed, is on the theme of 'holes,' and, as ever, readers are free—nay, encouraged—to add suggestions in comments. And if you snickered like a schoolchild at the obvious possibility of innuendo, never fear; Dorothy Ellis got there first…

Well, tis Friday, an' I done thought of a theme, so here's another episode of Friday Night Is Music Night. The theme is 'doors,' which I figure is probably a bit of an easy one. The six in the OP also have a general kinda-sorta-vaguely-1950s-related thing going, 'cause I felt like it, but feel free not to follow my lead on that score if, as you're as ever welcome to do, you feel like adding your own suggestions in comments.

I suspect that the theme for this episode of Friday Night Is Music Night is a bit obvious by now. Contributions this week come from The Reverend Beat Man (with a charming little ditty featuring, perhaps, the most famous zombie to ever break out of a tomb), The Spectres, Girlschool, The Meteors, Bobby "Boris" Picket & The Crypt-Kickers (though not the song you were no doubt expecting), and The Krewmen.

As ever, feel free to add your own ideas in comments.

Time we had a Friday Night Is Music Night, methinks. The clocks here in Blighty go back to Greenwich Mean Time this weekend; so here’s six songs on the theme of 'time.'

As ever, feel free to drop your own suggestions into the comments.
